The All Progressive Congress, APC in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has targeted 200,000 new members in a space of two weeks in the on going party registration in the state.
The Ikeduru APC Media Hub Boss, Don Martyn L.O Nwosu, made this statement during a leadership summit in Ikeduru, urging Party Leaders to register at least 200, 000 Ikeduru Indigenes as party members.
He noted that the figure is part of the plans of the ruling party to be the largest party in the State, the Country, and in Africa.
“The party (APC) targets not less than 50 - 60% of the people in Ikeduru.
"We don’t want to be over ambitious, but if possible, we want to register all the people in Ikeduru LGA".
“It is possible to have more than 200, 000 people in Ikeduru registered as members of our party, and if we can have that figure within two weeks, I think the party will be happy of doing something great,” he said.
According to him, the issue of registration of party members was very paramount.
This, he said, will help formalise the part of membership.
“It is one thing to say I’m a member of APC, and it is another to say I’m a card- carrying member of that particular party, so one of the most important things is for us to ensure we identify who are our bona-fide registered members.
"It is also important for the party as it is growing and trying to become the leading party in Africa to ensure that we go ahead all the nooks and crannies of our country to expand our membership base,” he added.
Nwosu urged Nigerians to join the APC to move the country forward.
He noted that since democracy has come to stay in the country, the only way to influence the politics is to participate in democracy.
“You can’t cannot influence politics without being in a particular political party, and ours being the ruling party offers Nigerians a chance to have a say in governance,” he said.
