Director General, Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, has commended His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, for Commissioning CPC Headquarters and also launched the Imo indigenous measurement cup during this year's World Consumer Rights Day which took place at CPC complex, area P. New Owerri, adjacent ISOPADEC office Owerri, on Monday 15th March, 2021.
The DG said "the relocation of CPC office to a more befitting environment is another big step in moving Imo State to the place where it really should be with respect to competitive economy and consumer protection.
Barely one year, Gov. Hope Uzodimma has shown high level of commitment and seriousness in repositioning Imo CPC for effective service delivery. "You can see that His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma had demonstrated enough political will to give motivational impetus to CPC" . The DG re-assured imolites that CPC will continue to work in synergy with all the stakeholders to support the vision of the shared prosperity government of Senator Hope Uzodimma in the state.
She reinterated the importance of the indigenous measurement cup among which she said it would promote transparency in business transactions as well as minimize the malpractices prevelent in the market which undermines the rights of the consumers.
Mrs Okafor said that the approval of a uniform measurement cups by the governor and the government of imo State would take imo State economy to where it ought to be.
According to her, the indigenous measurement cup was earlier approved by the department of weight and measures, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, proposed by imo State Consumer Protection Council to be the standard measurement for selling of grains in the state. Therefore, all business men and women have been enjoined to support this initiative.
The Secretary to the government of Imo State, Chief Cosmos Iwu was on ground to perform the Commissioning Ritual of Imo CPC Headquarters on behalf of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
In his speech chief Cosmos Iwu said he was happy being part of this year's world Consumer Rights Day. He thanked the DG, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor and the staff of Imo State Consumer Protection Council for their steadfastness and unwavering commitment to carry out the statutory mandates of the council to complement the shared prosperity vision of Gov Hope Uzodimma. She also noted that CPC is an indispensable component of the 3''R" mantra of Gov. Hope Uzodimma.
You have today shown your great capacity to safe lives in imo State, serve humanity and give back to the society, therefore I want to assure you on behalf of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma Governor, Imo State, the utmost support of the state government in your programmes gears towards protecting the consumers rights. He admonished the management of CPC to keep the candle burning.
