The Director General, Imo State Consumer Protection Council, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor has been given award of honour as THE MOTHER WITH HEART OF GOLD by the Catholic Women of St. Benignus Catholic Parish Ihitte Isi Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State, on Sunday 18th April, 2021 for her outstanding performance in the Shared Prosperity government of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The Award ceremony was part of the activities to mark this year's Mothers Day Celebration by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of St. Benignus Catholic church Ihitte Isi Mbieri.
Speaking during the award ceremony, the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Killian Eke announced that the Director General, Imo State Consumer Protection Council was selected for the award because of her track record of exemplary performance in the shared prosperity government of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma.
He said " Mrs Okafor has, in the last one year, work tirelessly to revive Imo CPC to justify her appointment as the DG as well as add to the many landmark achievements of the present administration of Gov. Hope Uzodimma in Imo State. According to the clergyman, the church decided to honour Mrs Okafor with this befitting award of excellence, in recognition of the laudable achievements recorded by CPC Imo State under her leadership, particularly in the area of sensitization and consumer education that had greatly improved in the state.
The Parish Priest equally noted that since the appointment of Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, the narrative has changed significantly both in sensitization, surveillance and enforcement operations of the council. He further said that the award given to the DG was to encourage her to do more for the people and also make other appointees follow her footsteps for the realization of the good intentions of our dear governor in taking imo to greater heights.
In her acceptance speech, the DG, who was physically present to receive the award, thanked the parish priest and the women of St. Benignus Catholic church Ihitte Isi Mbieri, for finding her worthy of the excellence award.
She attributed the council's achievements in the area of consumer education, surveillance and enforcement to the supports of the governor who saw the need to ensure adequate protection of consumers in the state. The workaholic DG said that the honour had affirmed that the activities of CPC under the shared prosperity government is really making a great impact on the lives of consumers in the state.
Mrs Okafor further explained that the government of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma is determined to ensure adequate protection of consumer's rights in the State, notting that since Gov. Hope Uzodimma came on board, he has made several efforts to reposition the council, which has greatly assisted them to embarked on series of sensitization and awareness campaign to relentlessly preach against and insulate consumers from the dangers of fake and adulterated products. It is on record that Gov. Hope Uzodimma met a moribund consumer protection agency but was not deterred and assiduously went into work in line with the 3R mantra.
Today, Gov. Hope has set the pace in consumer protection in the entire southeast which is imperative for meaningful socio-economic and political development of the region.
CPC under Mrs Obioma Okafor has taken countless steps to intensify the fight against fake and adulterated products, particularly in the area of public awareness, consumer education, surveillance and enforcement. She therefore promised to do more in order to reachout to the people on the need to know their rights as consumers. She also said that the fight against fake and adulterated products should be seen and treated as every body's business in order to take it to a logical end and make our society a more conducive place.
Finally,the DG call on the entire Catholic faithful to support the government of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma in all his good intentions to develop Imo State.
