IMO STATE PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT: HOUSEHOLD UPLIFTMENT PROGRAM ( HUP ), IMO STATE GEARS UP TO FINANCIALLY EMPOWER THE POOR

 


The Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) otherwise known as Conditional Cash Transfer today berthed at Oru East local government area of Imo State. Today marks the first time ID cards for cash transfer are being issued in Oru East

The programme aims at enabling beneficiaries to establish a sustainable means of livelihood. Since inception of the program, only 9 LGAs have been benefiting from the cash transfer, with Oru East joining the them today.

Speaking at the occasion marking the issuance of payment identification cards to shortlisted beneficiaries, the Imo State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Statistics, Rt. Hon. C.C. Osuala stated that the cash transfer is targeted at helping households to engage in small scale enterprises in order to reduce abject poverty in  communities and create opportunities for work both on-farm and off-farm especially among women and youth. 

He advised the beneficiaries to effectively apply the funds in reducing poverty, noting that the payments will help to increase household income and consumption in poofamilies.

Speaking at the occasion, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Christina Ude cautioned the beneficiaries to use the money to be self-reliant and avoid wasting the funds, but to rather 

engage in productive business activities like animal husbandry, petty trading, services such as dressmaking, grinding of grains and other necessary service at the communities

Present at the occasion was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu who promised to carry the appreciation and goodwill of the people back to the Governor.
