IMO TRANSPORT MINISTRY PARTNERS FRSC ON TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, TRAINING OF DRIVERS


 The Ministry of Transport, Imo State, has resolved to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps in strategic areas such as traffic management and training of government employed drivers.

The Commissioner for Transpor8t, Barr. Rex Anunobi, disclosed this on Monday when the new Sector Commander of FRSC, Imo State, Corps Commander Joshua Oluwafemi Adekanye, paid a courtesy/working visit to his office at the State Secretariat, Portharcourt road, Owerri, Imo State.

Anunobi who commended the new FRSC boss for the visit, described such partnership as strategic, purposeful and timely. 

The Commissioner restated the need to strengthen the Driving School Standardization Programme (DSSP) which he said is to efficiently sanitize driving schools to ensuring that only trained drivers are licensed. 

He described the ongoing construction of inter-sections which according to him would be mounted with automated traffic lights as one of the strategic steps taken by the Shared Prosperity Government of Senator Hope Uzodinma to ease traffic and also modernize the capital city. 


Barr. Anunobi also reiterated  the commitment of his Ministry through the newly re-established Imo State Traffic Management Authority (ISTMA) to work harmoniously with officers and men of FRSC to ensure sanity and discipline on the roads.


The Commissioner, however,  pledged to work in total harmony with the FRSC by exploring other possible areas of collaboration that will aid in the management and control traffic in the State. 


Earlier in his presentation, the new Sector Commander,  Joshua Adekanye, said he considers it strategic for FRSC and Ministry of Transport to explore and strengthen areas of collaborations such as provision of roads signs,  training and public enlightenment.


He further pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of Transport in the areas of training of government employed drivers and traffic personnel of the State Traffic Management Authority. 


Present during the visit include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Dr. Mrs Beatrice Uzoma-Uwandu and other  management staff of the Ministry of Transport and FRSC Imo State Command.
