THE GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE OF NIGERIA: JOINT INSPECTION OF THE NEW PRISON FACILITIES OF THE NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICES, ALONG PORT-HARCOURT ROAD OWERRI BY THE COMBINED TEAM OF MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND THE MINISTRY OF SPECIAL PROJECTS

 


A joint inspection of the new Prison Facilities along Port-Harcourt Road was carried out by a combined team of Imo government officials and officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services on Friday the 16th of April, 2021 to give effect to His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma's resolve to relocate the Prison Services HEADQUARTERS from the chokehold of the city center near Douglas House.

The government delegation were led by the Hon. Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Lady Dr. Love Ineh and the Hon. Commissioner for Special PROJECTS, Chief  Barrister Kingsley Ononuju while the Nigerian  Correctional Services officials were led by a Controller of NCS Mr Kingsley Njoku.

Included in the NCS delegation were Assistant Controller in-charge of zonal Works Mr T.O Ejiofor and Mr Onyenegecha Melford, a State Works Officer. 

Officials from the Ministry of Housing that conducted the inspection were, the Technical Adviser, Engr. Odo Ijere, Head of Department of Building services Mr D.O Dike, Head of Department of Estates, Mr Achinike Bede, and Head of Quantity Surveying Department MR N IHEZIE.

The team were joined by Technical Assistant Special Projects Dr. Ifeanyi Ekenasi and a PRO from Special Projects Ms Chibuzo Nnorom.

After the joint inspection of the Facilities,  it was agreed that an appraisal team of a joint Technical Committee  will be formed involving all the stakeholders to carry out a comprehensive evaluation and technical appraisal of what need to be done to get the place ready for operation.
