Good governance is the fulcrum of any successful establishment, essential to the achievement of set objectives and drives improvement, as well as maintaining legal and ethical standing in the eyes of the citizens.
In his inaugural speech as the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, underscored the importance of good governance.
"My government shall be a faithful covenant between the people and the government...We shall put in place an efficient and effective Imo State factory room of good governance for the ceaseless production of economic prosperity, accountability, justice and equity. Every Imo person shall have a say in government and shall be so recognized."
Uzodimmanomics therefore, is an embodiment of good governance, hybrid of Hopism and altruism, which manifests as fusion of vision and diligent service delivery to the people that captures the key principles of good governance for leaders and institutions, as anchored in the 3-R mantra of Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.
The Principles of Good Democratic Governance encapsulate fundamental values defining a common vision of democratic governance and helping public authorities at any level, measure and improve the quality of their governance and enhance service delivery to citizens.
During this past one year at the helm of affairs in Imo, Governor Uzodimma, has taken strategic decisions that border on the general good of the people as guided by the cardinal principles of Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, which interestingly incorporate the essential principles of good governance as follows: Participation, Representation, Responsiveness, Efficiency and Effectiveness, Openness and Transparency, Rule of Law, Ethical Conduct, Competence and Capacity, Innovation and Openness to Change, Sustainability and Long-term Orientation, Sound Financial Management, Human rights, Cultural Diversity and Social Cohesion, Accountability among others.
So far, the recovery efforts of the Uzodimma administration can be confidently graded as second to none. He is neither afraid of names nor principalities in his quest to recover all that belongs to Imo people, that were greedily and illegally acquired by some group of people, who came with lies and deceit, governed with lies and deception and wanted to rationalize corruption, impunity and aggrandizement through a devious plot of installing one of the favoured members of the loathsome group as Governor but this was fiercely resisted by Imo people, with Senator Hope Uzodimma leading the way.
Indeed, Uzodimmanomics is an interface between hope and audacity. Yes, if Governor Hope was not hopeful and audacious, he would have fallen for the antics of those that stole his hard-earned mandate and abandoned the quest. If Uzodimma was not audacious he would not have engaged in the recovery effort, stepping on strong toes and damning the consequences because of the resolve to do what is right.
Recall that after the separation of Singapore from Malaysia, the Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew developed a highly technocratic government, which led to competitive, meritocratic and result-based economic policies.
Remember also that Singapore was once an island without any natural resources.
However, Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, pulled off a dramatic transformation - including two casino-integrated resorts and an airport that is among the best in the world.
The central business district of Singapore, is crowded with skyscrapers that rival neighbouring Hong Kong and mid-town Manhattan in far away New York, United States.
I see a Lee Kuan Yew in Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. With the Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction agenda of his administration, Imo State is already glistering with completed projects.
Uzodimmanomics is transformational, it is a conscious and bold attempt to restore the stolen destiny of Imo and reposition the State on the path of sustainable economic development.
Uzodimmanomics is neither verbose nor cosmetic. It is a real mass movement of people, who want a better future for both the present generation and those yet unborn. It is a vision of prosperity anchored in good governance with resultant shared prosperity for all Imo people by a man, who has seen it all and only want to render excellent and selfless service to his people like Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore.
Some political analysts have suggested that Uzodimmanomics, should be taught in schools as a course in political science or public administration and I hope the authorities will look in that direction.
