APC Unity Rally At Ugiri-Ike

Since the advent of Senator Hope Uzodinma's  administration in the state as governor, APC in Ikeduru Local Government, has had no peace. Internal wrangling took the centre stage. To be succinct, there were sharp divisions within the two opposing camps in the LGA, one, loyal to Dr. Uzoma Obiyo and the other, loyal to Chief Charles Amadi aka Charvon.

Hence, it was a joyous moment as party faithful in the LGA gathered at the country home of Dr. Uzoma Obiyo, not to advance sectional supremacy, but to celebrate hard earned peace and unity which hitherto, proved elusive, a mirage, or phantom at best.

As a pragmatic leader who believes in unity of purpose, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Executive Governor of Imo State, not long ago, invited the two brothers to a round table conference at Imo House, Abuja. At the meeting, it was agreed that the two brothers should sheathe their swords and embrace peace. The governor reiterated his desire for unity and peace amongst APC members and the good people of Imo State. The governor reminded the duo of the importance of peace and unity as panacea to democratic dividends. In His Excellency's words, "any LGA were leaders are not united will not be able to attract the desired developmental projects to their people. Therefore, i enjoin both of you go embrace peace for the interest of your LGA and overall interest of the party"

Flowing from this, and in a bid to consumate this vaunted peace and unity in Ikeduru LGA, and in accordance with the state governors directive, Dr. Uzoma Obiyo on Saturday, May 22, 2021 convened a meeting of APC members of his own extraction.

In a well attended meeting, Dr. Obiyo told all present that he has reconciled with his brother, Chief Charles Amadi. He enjoined all his supporters to embrace peace for the interest of the party in the LGA. In strong terms, Dr. Obiyo asserted that for this new found peace to be sustained, "opinions of all majors players in Ikeduru APC must be respected. Prime leaders must shun nepotism and back bitting. A leader must be open minded and accessible. A leader must be a team player and must not be self centered. A good leader must be a team player. Leaders who work effectively NEVER say 'I', and that is because they have trained themselves never to say 'I'. Good leaders don't think 'I', they think 'we', they think 'team'. Politics is like a game which requires team work to win. A good leader should know that it is his/her duty to make the team function optimally. A good leader is one who accepts responsibility and do not sidestep it, but *'we'* gets the credit. This is what creates trust, which enables the leader to get the task done. We should come together as one indivisible family under the leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Placid Njoku, the deputy governor of Imo State and a proud son of Ikeduru LGA. With unity of purpose, reelection bid of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma come 2024 is guaranteed. Without fear of contradiction, I accepted this peace deal for the interest of all Ikeduru people, the respect I have for our governor who is a personal friend and Sir. Tony Chukwu who is like a father to me"

Ambassador Uche Ogbuagu, Member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly in his concise remarks thanked the governor for ensuring that peace is restored in Ikeduru LGA. He frowned at the attitude of one man in the entire LGA lording it on entire people of the LGA. Ambassador Uche Ogbuagu submitted that, "politics is an inclusive business. We are all from Ikeduru LGA and we know the capabilities of each other. As at today, I have the mandate of Ikeduru people. They elected me through the ballots and I owe them effective representation. To be modest, it is on record that I have executed more projects than any elected House of Assembly member living or dead in entire Imo State. The projects are there and verifiable. I have executed four projects in our sister LGA, Mbaitoli. I am willing to do more for my people, God willing. It is unfortunate that as an elected House of Assembly member, a man who claims to be my leader could draw list of party officers of Ikeduru LGA, Ward Officers and even President Generals of various Autonomous Communities without recourse to me. The most annoying was that the same man came to my immediate Autonomous Community, Akabor, and imposed a President General on me. We should be mindful that next elections are around the corner. Who are those leaders that can swing votes in their immediate communities? Only tested and trusted leaders can win elections for us in the forthcoming general election. Our people are wise and are ready to vote against the interests of selfish and greedy politicians. We know them and won't allow them to have their way."

In his remarks, Sir Tony Chukwu who represented Senator Hope Uzodinma at the unity rally could not hide his joy. He thanked Dr. Obiyo and his group for embracing peace. "On behalf of the Governor, I assure the people of Ikeduru of more democratic dividends now that peace is restored in the LGA. As a witness to this peace meeting, I assure you that the tenets of the accord will be kept to the later. All interests must be protected. No one man, henceforth, will determine how the party is governed in the LGA. I have seen the cream of leaders in this camp. I will report to the Governor of Imo State what I saw."

The State Chairman of APC who led other members of the State Working Committee to the rally in his speech thanked His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma as leader of the party for ensuring that peace is restored in Ikeduru LGA. He gave special thanks to Sir Tony Chukwu for initiating the peace move and its consolidation. He thanked Dr. Uzoma Obiyo and his brother Chief Charles Amadi for embracing peace. He called for the sustenance of peace and unity in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency especially now they are presently holding the position of Deputy Governor of the State and State Chairman of the party. He assured party faithful at the rally that, under his watch as state chairman of APC, every sphere of opinion must be accommodated.

The CampObiyo peace rally which was held at the country home of Dr. Uzoma Obiyo at Ugiri-Ike Nneise, Ikeduru LGA was attended by over 200 members of the party from each of the twelve Wards of Ikeduru LGA. Notable leaders present, amongst others were; Ambassador (Hon.) Uche Ogbuagu, member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Sampson Emele (Ability), the State Auditor of APC, Lady Clara Njoku, APC Woman Leader, Owerri Zone, Chief Sam Aka, Commissioner representing Owerri Zone in the Imo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. John Achilike, former commissioner of Public Utilities, Hon. Judge Opara (Shapume).
