On behalf of the National Chairman of the APC CECPC, H.E (Hon.) Mai Mala Buni, I welcome you all to the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC). I offer the sincere apologies of the National Chairman who is unavoidably absent due to urgent state engagements. He asked me to stand in for him and extend his goodwill and that of the entire members to you, the government of DPRK and of course, The Worker's Party of Korea.
The APC is the governing Party in Nigeria and is the largest Political Party in Africa, going by the figures of its just concluded Membership Registration which stands at, over 40 million Registered members.
The Bilateral relations between Nigeria and DPRK goes as far back as 1976, and in recent times, our two countries have collaborated in the areas of Educational and Technological Development.
Our two political parties and our two countries can do a lot more together that would be mutually beneficial to our People, our Political Parties and to our Country. We therefore look forward to more robusts engagements between our countries and even on Political Party basis.
*Remarks by the Ambassador of the DPRK, H.E. Jon Tong Chol*
The Ambassador spoke through his interpreter and Counsellor of the DPRK Embassy in Nigeria, Kim Chil Song.
*EXERPTS*: "My first impression in visiting your office is that the ruling party, APC is very active. I thought there was a big celebration at the office. But in fact people were excited to be part of the party. I have been following closely the recent activities of the party and I see that the party is growing from strength to strebght.
"I have followed closely the recent membership registration excercise of the party and it turned out to be a great success. The increase in the membership shows the popularity of the party and also the just policies of the APC government. I hope that the party achieves greater success in taking the Nigerian people to the Next Level.
"Our two countries have longstanding relations of friendship and cooperation. The leaders of the two countries and its people rejoices with the creative achievements which both countries are making. Both countries have exchanged high level delegations. A high level DPRK government delegation visited Nigeria to celebrate the first democracy day last year.
"The DPRK government prioritizes developing bilateral ties with the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea has congratulated the recent achievements of the APC and Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee have replied to the congratulatory message.
"We hope to seize this momentum to take our bilateral ties between the two ruling countries to a greater level. The ruling party of Korea, the Workers' Party of Korea has a history of 75 years. The Workers' Party of Korea have put forth the policy of independence and led our people to victory. The policy of independence is something we share in common.
"The policy of the ruling party, the APC has always remained central and its proving its vitality in recent times. And this has become the foundation for developing bilateral ties between the two parties.
"We believe that exchange and cooperation between the two countries through cooperation can avail us more. Engagement and exchange are very important in developing bilateral ties.
"All the parties have their challenges especially when you pursue policies of independence especially some parties abroad in domestic, try to interfere with party policies. We are facing similar challenges. Right now, we are under sanctions by outside forces. But our people and members of the party believe we will emerge victorious as long as we pursue the policy of independence.
"This is a very important time when the party should join hands to face its challenges together. We look forward to working with APC in future.
"The Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea was held in January and His Excellency, Kim Jong-un has been elected the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea.
"The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea has outlined plans for bilateral ties with other political parties in different countries. And the ruling party in Nigeria, APC is one of the parties we wish to develop bilateral ties with. Nigeria is the only country that has its diplomatic mission physically present in Pyongyang. This is a demonstration that both countries are ready to advance and strengthen its bilateral ties.
"However, the interaction between the two parties have not been at a satisfactory level in recent years. I am happy to inform you that I will report this meeting to the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea immediately. I look forward to engaging with the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee often in future for the benefit of the two political parties and for the benefit of the two countries. I look forward to your personal support and relations at personal level as well."
