On Thursday May 3, 2021, Her Excellency, the wife of Imo State Governor, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, through the Honorable Commissioner for women Affairs and vulnerable groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, visited the victims and families of the deaceased persons of the ill-fated ghastly motor accident which occurred on 1st May, 2021 at the Nkwonmiri Market in Nwangele Local Government.
The First Lady, who has been following the progress of the victims, through the Local Government Chairlady, presented cash palliatves to them through the Commissioner for Women affairs. "I came to convey Her Excellency's condolences to the breaved familes. Please, as we grieve, let us take solace in the fact that your loved ones are resting in the bosom of our Lord and someday, we shall all meet to part no more. Her Excellency is filled with gratitude to God for the speedy recovery of the survivors who sustained various degrees of injuries", Ugwu stated. She further disclosed that the office of her Excellency through the Ministry of Women affairs and vulnerable groups will continue to embark on well thought out programmes for women, children, and the vulnerable groups in our state.
The commissioner who was accompained by Chief Mrs Gift Nwanojuo Achomba, EXCO member NCWS, Mrs Chinwe Nwokeji, aide to Hon.Commissioner, and other staff of the ministry, were received by the wife of the Interim Management Committee chairman, Mrs Nkeiruka Iwuagwu, victims of the accident, families of the deceased and the staff and Management of Nwangele local government.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairperson of the council, Mrs Nkeiruka Iwuagwu, poured encomiums on Imo first lady for her humanitarian and motherly disposition, adding that the entire local government council are proud and solidly behind the 3R government of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma. She thanked the commissioner for her doggedness and dexerity in the discharge of her duties as a commissioner.
Overwhelmed with emotions, one of the injured accident victims, Miss Blessing Nwodo, and a brother to one of the deceased, Mr Chijioke Olisakwe, thanked the wife of the governor for her thoughtfulness and kindness. There were songs of praises and prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed and full recovery of the injured persons
