The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources Mr. G.E Nnah has paid a familiarization visit to the headquarters of Imo State Water and Sewage Corporation (ISWSC). Also visited were some other Water Schemes in the state.
Speaking at the Head Office of the corporation in Owerri the Permanent Secretary stated that he came to acquaint himself with the workings of the corporation having been newly posted to the ministry. He described safe and portable water as a necessity for human health and development and lauded His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Executive Governor of Imo State for his interest and commitment in the water sector as demonstrated through the payment of counterpart funds and attraction of development partners like USAID, EWASH which has led to the rehabilitation of Ekenguru Water Scheme, Egbeada Water Scheme, Otamiri Water Scheme among others.
Mr. Nnah commended the Managing Director of the corporation Engr. Emaka Ugoanyanwu and his team for being alive to their duties. He charged them to continue to exhibit diligence in their duties especially now that the water sector in the state is undergoing massive rehabilitation.
The Permanent Secretary who used the occasion to address staff of the Engineering, Water Services and Laboratory Departments assured that the support and co-operation of his ministry to ensure that the water corporation does not fall short of expectation.
Receiving the Permanent Secretary in his office earlier, the Managing Director of the corporation, Engr. Emaka Ugoanyanwu gave a brief history of the transformation of his corporation and their achievements so far. He later took the Permanent Secretary to inspect the installation of new pumps at Egbeada and the Otamiri Regional Water Scheme.
Directors and Heads of Departments of the corporation were in attendance during the visit.
