The yearly inspection of orphanage homes by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups has commenced. The first inspections was led by Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, Honorable Commissioner for women affairs and vulnerable groups with other staff of the ministry. The Ministry has so far inspected six homes and would continue the inspections until all the homes are visited. The visits were to ensure compliance with the Ministry's rules and regulations as regards the wellbeing of the children under their care and custody.
Ugwu interacted with the various heads of the visited orphanage homes to ascertain their challenges, achievements and areas of improvement. The findings of the visits would be communicated to the proprietors and any needed improvements or changes completed within a time frame. According to the Honourable Commissioner; "There is nothing greater than the welfare and wellbeing of the child and the Ministry would do everything to make sure that proper assessments and quality care are meantained and in place."
The Ministry also went through their registrations and yearly renewals. Those orphanage homes without renewals were given to the end of June to pay into Imo State TSA account and file a copy of the receipt with the Ministry. After the inspections last year, six orphanage homes were closed. The list of registered orphanages has since been submitted to the Imo state police command and can be accessed through the Child department at the Ministry of women affairs Office at the state secretarait.
TO GOD BE ALL GLORY.
