Yesterday 16th June 2021 was the final turning point for me.
My name is Dr. Ugorji Onyeukwu. I am a Lagos based medical professional living in Lagos. I am a strong supporter of the Imo PDP in my native Orsu local government area
I recently begin to doubt my support of the PDP in Imo State over their constant support of acts of insecurity in the state. I have silently watched as my party, the PDP each time gleefully celebrate acts of violence by hoodlums and gunmen.
When public properties like the prisons and police stations were burnt and security agents killed, my party PDP did not condemn these acts. Rather, they called on the Governor to be removed. PDP heaped the entire blame on the Governor.
Up till now, my party PDP refused to condemn the burning of the Governor's house.
Two events happened yesterday that totally put me off.
One was the burning of houses of two of our illustrious son's in Orlu local government.
The other was the arrest of 75 persons with their motorcycles in Benue State.
On the Orsu arsons, there was no condemnation of of the dastardly act from the PDP. Instead their media people rejoiced. This is terrible. How can people running PDP become so debased.
The other arrests in Benue State did not attract commendation either from PDP in Imo State. At least the military saved our state from influx of unemployed persons.
Rather the same PDP media people started to instruct the Imo State Governor to send a delegation to Benue to go and profile the arrested youths. They went ahead to say that there guns may have arrived Imo State ahead of them.
I am baffled by the type of blind anger directed to the Governor of Imo State all the time by my own party. It's so annoying to not only me, but so many of us who supported Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu in the last primaries of the party.
The other day, Uche Onyeagocha told the world that Imo State is boiling because corrupt Supreme court judges gave victory to Uzodimma. Why must we destroy the Supreme court just because Uzodimma went to court and won. After all Ihedioha won at the tribunal and Court of Appeal. Uzodimma did not call the judges corrupt. He merely appealed.
Orsu people value their leaders and people irrespective of party affiliations. For a party like PDP in Imo State to cheer the burning down of the village homes of Orsu son's is very worrying.
For me, this is the final straw. I cannot stomach what Emeka Ihedioha and his group in PDP are doing to Imo State. It's shameful.
I therefore resign from Imo PDP
