The Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, PhD has tasked all stakeholders from Ikwo LGA with staying clear from the politics of political wards that are not theirs as that has been responsible for political violence in the past.
Speaking during the stakeholders meeting of Ikwo APC stalwarts held at Onuebonyi Echara, the Headquarters of Ikwo LGA, against the now botched but soon-to-be-held APC Ward and local government congresses, the Ebonyi Deputy Governor condemned a culture of negative, aggressive criticism of leaders that has become fashionable amongst Ikwo youths on social media and rather encouraged our youths to speak good of leaders and to constructively criticize leaders without resorting to the name calling and rolling in mud that has become the order of the day.
Enumerating the works of Governor David Umahi in Ikwo LGA to include the highest engagement of Ikwo sons and daughters by any adminstration since the creation of Ebonyi State, the construction of Nkwegu - Ndufu Echara road, the Onuebonyi Echara - Onu Igboji road and the Agubia - Abina road, amongst others, the deputy governor urged Ikwo people to remember that the government of Engr. David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE has been fair to Ikwo Noyo. He therefore encouraged Ikwo people to remain unflinched in their support for the party of the government, the All Progressives Congress.
Advising them to sit tight and proud in the party, he noted that the APC remains a party to beat in Nigeria. "If you're with us," he said, "be with us."
The deputy governor tasked all political officeholders, whether elected or appointed, with ensuring their empower people before they leave office. Reminding them that a day of reckoning shall come, he advised all leaders to make it a responsibility to better the lives of the masses from the salaries they earn by holding in trust for the people a mandate for all.
The executive chairman of Ikwo LGA, Elder Hon. Stephen Orogwu , assured party faithfuls and stakeholders that for the 27 positions available at the ward level and all the positions in the local government level, transparency and fairness shall be the credo.
The party stakeholders meeting attracted the créme de la créme in Ikwo politics and re-established Ikwo LGA's status as the heartbeat of Ebonyi politics.
