In an effort to strengthen the longtime partnership between Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Owerri, the pragmatic Director-General of CPC imo, Hon Mrs Obioma Okafor, on Thursday, 8th July 2021, paid a courtesy visit to the General Manager, NTA Owerri, Mrs Franca Akinnoye in her office in Owerri, the imo state capital.
The CPC boss who was accompanied by some of the heads of department of CPC, emphasized the need to work in synergy and to further strengthen the already existing cordial relationship between the two agencies. Mrs Okafor, a seasoned administrator with proven track record in policy implementation and strategy, used the meddium to unveiled some of the priority areas of interest for CPC which include among other, public enlightenment, consumer education and surveillance and enforcement operations to clamp down on the perpetrators of fake and substandard goods in the state.
"We are here today to solicit for NTA assistance to improve on our efforts to create more awareness and arouse the consciousness of consumers to know their rights and to seek redress each time they are shortchanged in way in the course of satisfying their basic needs" the DG said.
We recognise the importance of collaborating with NTA, that is why we are here today to request for NTA assistance to help us reach out to imolites by broadcasting CPC jingles, programmes and enforcement operations. With all humility and high sense of responsibility, the DG reiterated her agency's commitment to protect the consumers rights and interests inline with the 3R mantra of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma in imo State.
It is worthy to note that the present administration in imo State met a moribund, abandoned and delapidated consumer protection council, but today through the painstaking efforts of Governor Hope Uzodimma, the narratives has changed in all aspects. Moving forward, the DG explained that it is her resolve to partner with all the relevant stakeholders to eliminate all forms of hazardous products and unscrupulous business practices to ensure the overall wellness of imo citizens.
The General Manager NTA Owerri, Mrs Franca Akinnoye responded with an expression of gratitude for the August visit in the month of July and promised the support of NTA to assist CPC imo State in all their programme to educate imolites. She appludes the DG consumer protection council, Mrs Okafor for all her laudable achievements within the shortest period of time she piloted the affairs of CPC in the state.
According to Mrs Franca Akinnoye, NTA runs the largest television network in Nigeria with stations in several parts of the country, henceforth they will start featuring CPC programme in their TV broadcast at a subsidised rate.The meeting ended with a presentation of some CPC publication to enlighten the public to the GM NTA.
