The Imo state government has reiterated it's commitment to the opening of all rural roads in the state.
The Deputy Governor and Chairman Committee on the Review of RAMP roads across the state, Prof. Placid Njoku stated this while inspecting the rehabilitation of RAMP roads in Obowo, Ihitte Uboma and Ehime Mbano local government areas.
Prof. Njoku while addressing some indigenes of the LGAs visited said Government has shifted development to the rural areas especially the rehabilitation of rural roads to enable rural Farmers to conveniently transport their farm produce to the urban areas.
He made it clear that Government has their interest at heart which necessitated the inspection tour of RAMP roads under rehabilitation to ensure their speedy completion.
The Deputy Governor commended the level of work done on most of the roads visited especially on clearing, construction of culverts, drainages and earth work and urged the contractors to bring more equipment to site for speedy completion of the projects.
Prof. Njoku urged the people to cooperate with the contractors to enable them do a better job as the rehabilitation of the roads were for their own benefit.
A leader in Umunachi community in Obowo LGA, Chief Columba Ayoka informed the Deputy Governor that they have advised their youths against obstructing the progress of work on the road and commended the state government for rehabilitating the Apostolic church Junction-Umungwa Afor Umunachi-Ehume road which he said is important to the People.
At Aforebu- Nzerem road in Ehime Mbano LGA, they people thanked the Deputy Governor for coming to inspect it's progress of work and urged the contractor to do a quality work.
The contractor handling the road projects, Engr. Peter. Amadi assured that proper work would be done on the roads.
The roads visited by the Committee included the two point nine five kilometer Nduhum-Amuzi-Alike-Owugha road,two point two seven kilometer Umuariam- Avutu-Ehume-Mbakwe road and one point three zero kilometer Apostolic church Junction-Umungwa Afor Umunachi-Ehume road all in Obowo LGA.
Others are fourteen kilometer Eke Ikpa-Abueke-Umuawuchi Umuokoro-Isinweke road, Council road stadium-Umuokoro-Umuhi Amakohia road in Ihitte Uboma LGA as well as the six point four one kilometer Orie Ikpa-Agbajah-Eke Umuodu Umukabia Ikpem road and Aforebu-Nzerem road all in Ehime Mbano LGA.
Among those with the Deputy Governor on the inspection tour are the Secretary of the committee, Mrs. Ngozi Pat- Ekeji and , Mr. Ifeanyi Oru , member .
