Nigerians who are physically challenged and vulnerable, that for long been denied access to public buildings and employments will now have cause to smile, as federal government is doing all to fix the indifference for a better tomorrow.
This and many more were made known today, August 3rd, 2021, during a legislative session of House committee on people with disabilities at the national assembly, Abuja, which had the attendance of Chairmen of Federal Civil Service Commission, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and National Commission for People With Disabilities.
Hon. Princess Miriam Onuoha, who represents the good people of Okigwe North Federal Constituency & Chairman House Committee on people with disabilities and vulnerable at the national assembly, alongside other relevant stakeholders clamoured on the need to integrate and give the physically challenged person(s) in the society an unlimited access to public buildings and employments.
She pointed that over the years, the physically challenged people in our society have gone through an unprecedented negligence, which had affected them psychologically and emotionally, adding that she will do all that is needed to better their lots through government policies and engagement.
The legislative session, which was poised at Disability
Routine Compliance Check and enforcement cum Monitoring of the Disability Act by Ministries, Agencies and Department's of Government with respect to Access to public buildings and employment quotas for People With Disabilities.
The Government officials came with blueprint to strategically construct 200 unit houses within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and 50 units buildings each in the 36 States of the Federation in order to resolve the issue of accommodation that currently affects the people with disabilities.
Hon. Princess Miriam lauded the planned efforts with notion that it will go along way to repositioning their lives positively, thus pleading with the authority at the centre to also extend more value added incentives to transform the plights of people with disabilities in the country.
