OFFICE OF HER EXCELLENCY, IMO FIRST LADY, BARRISTER CHIOMA UZODIMMA THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS AND VULNERABLE GROUPS BARR. CHIOMA UZODIMMA VISITS MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CENTRE, ORLU TO COMMEMORATE WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK

On Thursday, August 5, 2021, Her Excellency Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, in commemoration of the world breastfeeding week, paid a visit to the Maternal and Child health centre Orlu, where newborn babies are immunised against several diseases. Recall that weeks back, Imo first lady flagged off the immunization ceremony for the first round of Polio Outbreak Response (OBR), to mark the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW).

Thursday, being immunization day for new babies at the center, afforded Imo First Lady, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, the opportunity to speak to the nursing mothers, enlightening them about the importance and usefulness of breast feeding. Her Excellency was represented at this surprise visit by the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu.

"We are here at the directive of Imo First Lady to interact and discuss with you the importance of a healthy breast feeding for your lovely babies. Breast milk provides important nutrients which is necessary for effective child growth, reduces the risk of infections, and builds stronger immune system. In addition to the immunizations your children are getting today, WHO also recommends that you breastfeed your babies up to two years, if possible. Breast feeding also lowers the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, less hypertension by decreasing blood pressure, etc, in breastfeeding mothers," Ugwu stated.

In the question and answer sections, the new mothers asked several pertinent questions which were readily answered by the Honorable commissioner and the staff of the centre. The highlight of the visit was the sharing of the gifts from Imo first lady to the mothers. Ugwu informed them that the welfare of Imolites, and women in particular are at the core of Imo first lady's Agenda.

The women thanked and showered accolades on Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma for remembering them and for their gifts. They prayed for the Uzodimma administration and asked God to endow the Governor and First Lady with wisdom to continue to steer the Affairs of imo citizens aright.

TO GOD BE ALL GLORY.
