Nigerians we all know that it is no longer news that before 2015, Nigerian roads were unmotorable and the poorest condition of national roads were roads under the control of the Federal Government known as Federal Roads. And this have often led to loss of lives , and reduction of life span of vehicles in our country Nigeria.
The ever humane and urbane Senator Andy Uba, MFR during his stint at legislative chambers, passed numerous bills.
One of such important Bill, is the "National Road Fund Bill". This bill entails to establish a National Road Fund to be a repository of revenue from charges received from road users and other sources of financing, administration and periodic maintenance of road infrastructures in Nigeria.
This particular bill aims at provision of sustainable source of funding for road maintainace, establishment of governing board which shall be responsible for the management of the funds and create an enabling environment for private sector participation, management and financing the road sector.
The National Road Fund Bill is also a law required to resolve insufficient level of funding and inconsistent allocations from the Federal Road Management Authority (FERMA) rendering maintenance preparation challenging and as well hindering the growth of the private sector. In a nutshell the new Bill is meant to finance the maintenance and rehabilitation of National Roads as a policy response .
Distinguish Senator Andy Uba made it known while dialoguing with his fellow senators at the National Assembly that inadequate financing for Nigeria Road Infastructural Management results in delayed and inadequate road maintenance, which in turn leads to assets failure and contributes to higher construction costs for regular and periodic maintenance of Federal roads across Nigeria.
This exact policy made by Senator Andy Uba was a big move in the right direction, in order to drive social change and position in the country on the path of infastructural development, sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria.
The passage of this bill in 2017, accelerated the maintenance of delapidated federal roads across Nigeria, and automatically reduced the number of auto crash in our roads, which every honest Nigerian can boldly say that for the past 25 years till 2017 , Nigeria federal Roads have never gotten a right touch, but now we all can testify that our Federal roads have improved by 75%, kudos to Senator Andy Uba for raising his voice for the Nigeria masses.
There's gainsaying, that most of our internal Local Government and state roads in Anambra state are not motorable as at today , but with an experienced lawmaker and shrewd administrator like Sen. Andy Uba MFR, who has always deviced the means of sustainable development and growth, our infrastructural deficit will be addressed, and our ailing roads will be restored.
As a public officer, he doesn't shy away from his responsibilities, neither does him abdicate his roles as a leader to chase clout, Anambra here's the man of content and character, to build from his stellar performance as a legislator and build Anambra state of our dreams and this is one of my reasons why I stand with Andy Uba.
