Imo State a welfare State that comprises of Statesmen, the elites, the burgeois, Senior citizens and peasant farmers/entrepreneurs who work hard to make hard earned living, has become a peaceful and most hospitable state nationwide.
Despite the prolonged socio-economic crises that loomed in the course of time, caused by fuel scarcity and industrial action embarked upon by tanker drivers, the Governor *took the bull by the horn,* when the situation was alarming.
His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma took pragmatic steps to end the exploitation of petrol consumers/passengers and low income earners below seventy thousand naira (70,000), who have been exonerated from paying tax.Which was a burden on their shoulders that incite them to turn stiff-necked.
Therefore, workers/civil servants and businessmen who are often penny-wise and pound-foolish will now be thrift in managing their viable means of livelihood, because they have been exempted from sharing their huge dividends with tax authorities.
While commending the Governor for heeding to the grievances and agitation of labourers, we should not fail to acknowledge the state of Imo today, that used to be besieged by political desperadoes who looted the State's treasury and accumulated debts that decreased the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Imo State. And those who converted public infrastructures into their personal properties, and squandered government allocated funds into elephant projects built with inferior materials, and hence they collapsed on daily basis. Such insignificant elephant projects that have no economic impact on Imo citizens, have reduced Imo State into a shambolic entity. Wherein the high rate of unemployment and insecurity was overdue.
Moreover, Governor Hope Uzodimma's one year and in office has made Imolites to realise that those substandard elephant projects built by the past regime, is *much ado about nothing.*
Therefore, using his discretion in administration, he will rather use the State's allocated revenue to develop Imo into a welfare State than lavishing it on trivialities.
The people's Governor has *used one stone to kill two birds,* by his order given to exonerate income earners below seventy thousand naira (70,000) from paying tax.Similarly, tanker drivers were motivated to call off the lingered stike and supply petrol at cheeper rates.
What a sagacious Governor!
Consequently, in every nook and cranny of the State, one can now observe without consternation that normalcy has been restored.
To illustrate, there is no more insecurity. No more fear of Unknown Gun Men (UGM).
There is no more trade barriers.
The tax exemption has halted trade barriers, hence Imolites can now go about their normal businesses without fear or apprehension of being taxed.
There is no more tax force (Agboro boys) that often extort and chase drivers on the road, during the previous regime. And the rate of oil bunkering has been reduced since the introduction of the Department of State's Security (DSS) by the Governor, as an offshoot of the police department to combat oil bunkering.
Subsequently, the rate of cyber crimes had been drastically reduced as it is evident in the School environment, where anti cult Marshalls monitor the school premises from time to time, inorder to apprehend suspects.
The same case applies to drug addicts and smugglers whose excesses is under control, as NAFDAC and NDLEA are not reluctant in discharging their functions anymore.
In addition, walking on the streets of Owerri today, one can observe that drivers take precautions while driving to avoid reckless driving that will attract penalty from the Road Safety Corps who monitor road users on daily basis, using the direction of traffic light and symbols that have been installed in all the major roads and roundabouts of Owerri by the government. Hence, the rate of fatal accident has been eradicated.
The rate of unemployment in the State has been reduced to the bearest minimum.
The School fees of non indigenes in State's institutions like Imo State University (IMSU) has been reduced to the amount the indigenes are paying. Which was increased to one hundred and twenty thousand naira (N120,000) during the regime of the former Governors. And now the children of the poor can now have access to quality education at affordable prices.
This new development in Imo State cannot be heard in other states.
Hence, this is a clear indication that Governor Hope Uzodinma's administration has restored normalcy in Imo State.
On that note, Imolites will not hesitate to support the Shared Prosperity Government, as normalcy is an ethical value needed for development.
