Over the years the Imo State Housing Corporation was left to ruin with little or no effort towards resuscitating the corporation. It is right to say it is was moribund, unproductive and its structures weren’t conducive for any official duties. Hence, serviced the state revenue with the little they can lay their hands on. It was a clear case of neglect from the previous administrations meeting a housing corporation that lacked the will power to drive home its primary functions.
Before now, the Imo State Housing Corporation was adjudged to be synonymous to a graveyard which implies that nothing was working both the staff and the corporation itself. The staff were not properly motivated in terms of prompt payment of salaries as well as the management was not forthcoming with the right working approach and this made the corporation drift away from the eyes of the public and its activities began to fade away from the eyes of the public.
The shared prosperity government of Gov. Hope Uzodimma having understood the situation and the state of Imo State Housing Corporation knew that it cannot effectively drive home the administration’s plan of providing conducive and affordable housing for its citizenry decided to take the bull by the horn through the appointment of Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi as the General Manager and Chief Executive of the Corporation.
Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi as a young man full of pluck and who understands the demands of Imolites for affordable housing in a State where private developers are now into housing racketeering while exploiting the people, immediately on assumption of office embarked on the process of overhauling the Corporation both structurally and in reviving the workaholic spirit of the Management and Staff for optimum productivity.
The style of leadership brought to bare by Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi within a short period of time began to yield positive impacts on Estates owned by the State Government which hitherto was left without proper management began to receive attention and all necessary payment due to the government in form of levy and revenue was paid, routine inspection of the Estates by the General Manager and members of his management team was initiated, pending issues between the Corporation and its Estates host communities was resolved amicably, etc.
There is no doubt that Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi’s one year in office has attracted several communities who has given in to his integrity and sincerity of leadership by calling for partnerships between their community and the Corporation in Estate development, Ongoing talks with relevant housing developing partners at the federal level in developing housing plan for civil servants in the state, clamping down of illegal developers defrauding unsuspecting public, amongst many other moves.
Today, the Imo State Housing Corporation office has become a beehive of activities as Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi in his One Year in office has reclaimed the public’s trust and has rebranded the image of the Corporation as both partners and investors have the confidence and ease in doing business with the Corporation and this uncommon transformation has attracted men and women of goodwill to the Corporation just to appreciate Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi for a job well done.
Gainsaying that Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi’s One Year in office has changed the ugly narratives of the Corporation and has proven to be a partner in success of the 3R mantra of the administration of Gov. Hope Uzodimma which through the support of the state government has Rehabilitated, Reconstructed and Recovered the Corporation and its properties including lands that were illegally allocated to individuals for political gains.
While we are congratulating the General Manager/Chief Executive of the Imo State Housing Corporation, Barr. Chinedu Mbakwe Obi for a successful and achievements filled One Year in office, it has become obvious that the man at the helm of affairs at the Corporation is aware that the reward for good work is more work and definitely has prepared himself to continue working for the greater good of the people and in the clear vision of Gov. Hope Uzodimma in the Housing sector for Imolites.
