SON, CPC strengthen links to fight substandard products in imo

 

Two government agencies in Imo State, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), have agreed to collaborate in their efforts to fight against substandard products in the State.

The agreement was reached on Monday, 27th September, 2021, when the new State Coordinator of SON, Egnr. Mrs Echesiri Comfort, paid a courtesy visit to the DG Imo CPC, in her office in Owerri. This two heads of government agencies expressed their commitment to intensify inter-agency collaboration towards ridding the state of fake and substandard products.


While receiving the new State Coordinator of SON, Egnr. Mrs Comfort  Echesiri, who paid a courtesy visit to her office in Owerri, the Director General, CPC, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, explained that both agencies have statutory responsibilities to ensure that goods and services available for consumption in imo state, conform to international standard.


 The proactive DG, Imo State Consumer Protection Council, observed with dismay the high rate of substandard products in circulation in Imo state, despite the efforts made so far by this present government. For this reason, there is need for regulatory agencies to collaborate at all time to fight this heinous crimes to a still.


Moving forward, the DG traced the cordial relationship between CPC and SON to the time of the former State Coordinator of SON, Egnr Mrs Madaiki, whom she described as a reliable partner in progress. She went further to appreciate  her counterpart from SON for following the footsteps of her predecessor.


Earlier in her speech, the new State Coordinator SON, Egnr. Mrs Comfort Echesiri, commended the existing cordial relationship between the two agencies and advocated for greater synergy to ensure standards development and regulatory activities in imo.


The SON chief executive, promised to provide the required support towards the achievement of the core mandates of the two agencies in line with the agenda of the present administration in Imo State. "I look forward to greater and more regular interactions with CPC in the near future to deepen the existing cordial relationship which my predecessor started" she said.


Joining the Director General, CPC to receive the state coordinator, SON and her team are Mrs Justina Chukwu, the HOD Admin, Mr Tochukwu Obi, HOD Consumer Education, Mr Charles Umunna, HOD transport and Mr Leonard Okwuleihi, HOD security.
