IMO CPC COLLABORATES WITH LOCAL GOVT. SERVICE COMMISSION TO SET UP DESK OFFICES IN 27 LGAs

 


The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Imo State has said that it will establish desk offices in the 27 local government areas in the state to enhance its war against fake and adulterated products in the rural areas.


The DG CPC, Imo State, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the chairman, Imo State Local Government Service Commission at the State Secretariat, Owerri on Wednesday, 2nd of March 2022.


According to CPC boss, the council is desirous of ensuring that Imolites enjoy quality goods and services at all times. She explained that the idea is part of the council's strategic plans to take the fight against fake and adulterated products to all the nooks and crannies of the state to guarantee effective Consumer Protection.  


Our target is to extend consumer education and awareness programmes to the rural  areas through desk officers who will sensitize the people to know that there is an Agency or Body called Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) established by law to protect them against any form of market abuses.


This desk officers are to receive complaints from people who are short-changed as well as sensitize them to know their basic rights as consumers. "We are trying to make the desk officers, our foot soldiers to bring the much needed enlightenment to the people in the grassroots".


Recalling her achievements in office, the CPC boss commends the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma for his exemplary leadership in reviving CPC for effective protection of Consumer's Rights in the state. The council under her watch is gradually regaining her lost glory. "We have zero tolerance for bribery and corruption and the war against counterfeit products in Imo and Nigeria at large, is gradually gaining momentum".  


In line with Gov. Hope Uzodimma's mandate to ensure that only genuine and safe products were offered for consumption to the people we are here today to request for the cooperation and  assistance of the leadership of Imo State Local Government Service Commission to have CPC desk offices in various LGAs in Imo State.


Responding, Lady KRO Izuogu, the chairman, Local Government Service Commission Imo State, commended the DG and her team for the good job they are doing in the last two years and also the confidence the Agency's activities has brought to the Consumers in the state. Lady Izuogu charged the DG and her team to be firm and diligent in discharging their duties, noting that their job is very risky and sensitive one. She agreed with the DG that there are lots of unhealthy practices going on in the rural areas which requires an urgent intervention by extending CPC regulatory activities to the grassroots. "We will support you to realise this vision" she said.


Joining the chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Imo State, Lady KRO Izuogu to receive DG, Imo CPC and her team include, Chief Larry Obinna, the IMC Chairman(Ahiazu Mbaise) Nzobi Prince China Keke, the Commissioner 1 (LGSC Imo State) Hon  Chief Sam Aka, Commissioner2 (LGSC Imo State) Dr. JNC Onyeagbosi, the Commissioner3, Mrs. Ngozi Dim, the DAF, Sir. Iroanya Evans, the Deputy Director administration, Mrs. Anoka Ifeoma, HOD Planning &. Statistics, Mr. John Igwegbe, HOD Finance and Mr. Sam Nmadu, the PRO.
