Reporting from Enugu
Saturday, April 2nd will go down in the annals of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as an epochal day, as the Enugu State Chapter of the party recieved the Deputy National Chairman, South, Chief Emma Eneukwu.
It will be recalled that the Enugu born Political guru emerged victorious for the position at the just concluded National Convention of the party.
Thousands of enthusiastic party faithful, resplendent in different colourful attire had waited patiently until Chief Eneukwu's aircraft arrived at the Akanu Ibiam International airport Enugu, at exactly 12.15 pm. Senior party leaders, led by the Imo born National Vice Chairman, South East, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, Zonal Party Executives and the indefatigable Enugu APC State Chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballa, were also on ground to ensure that the well planned event didn't have any hitch.
In his airport ceremony remarks, the Deputy National Chairman thanked the people of South East APC for their massive support during the successful National Convention, especially the delegates, State party Chairmen, Ministers, National and State Assembly Members and the Governors. Chief Eneukwu paid special tribute to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state for his resilience and patriotism in making sure that what was due to the South East during the National Convention was not negotiated away. He equally expressed appreciation to the Leadership caucus of the entire Southern region for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to let them and the party down.
The Deputy National Chairman also harped on party unity across the entire South. "The era of division and factions are over and under my stewardship, no party member or leader will be left behind, because with unity, we are sure of victory in the region." He specifically decried the sad situation of governance in Enugu state and vowed that the era of one - party syndrome, imposition, impunity and Godfatherism are over.
Speaker after speaker eulogized and lionized Governor Hope Uzodinma whom they crowned the "Governor General " of South East for his tenacity and steadfastness in party affairs.
After the airport ceremonies, Chief Emma Eneukwu led other Leaders and the thousands of party supporters in a long convoy round the Coal city. From Emene to Awkunanaw, Agbani to Milkin Hill, Independence Layout, Presidential Road, the popular Kenyetta road and Ogbete market road, it was a show of indescribable solidarity by natives who trooped out along the streets to show support for Chief Eneukwu and APC.
At Ngwo, directly across the residence of late Enugu Political colossus, Chief C.C Onoh, the convoy was met with an uncontrollable and joyous crowd who vowed to swim and sink with APC.
Arriving at his village of Obinagu in Udi L. G. A, the Deputy National Chairman was recieved by his kinsmen after paying homage to the Igwe in Council.
From all indications, the people of Enugu State and South East in general have continued to buy into the APC gospel and they cannot wait to showcase their confidence in the party as the 2023 general elections beckon.
