At very critical points in the history of this nation the role of South West towards South East, the Nigeria Nation and the relationship thereafter towards nationhood is not lost to history by the watchers and recorders of political events in Nigeria.
The release of the late great sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo from Calabar prison and his subsequent roles after he emerged as the Finance Minister is not lost to history.
The political master stroke of indeginization decree that crippled South Easterners economically is not lost to history.
The continue existence and emergence of South East beyond the imagination of the occastrated total and political annihilation by the architects of those policies is a testament to the intervention of God Almighty in the affairs of the people of South East and by extension our great nation Nigeria. Till today, the roles of South East towards nation building is unquestionable.
Fifty one years today after the indeginization decree, history is yet again placing on the shoulders of the leaders of South West on an unenviable political leadership role that will determine the destiny of Nigeria based simply but on weighty issue of equity, fair play and justice for a nation at a crossroad of corporate existence. The world is watching.
The North and the West holds in their hands the peaceful transfer of power based on equity, justice and fairness, a more perfect union for the corporate existence of our great union and something to continually strive for in nation building like other nations of the world. The North, on the bases of adherence to the unwritten but well understood Nigeria political arrangement of NORTH/SOUTH political divide of power in the NORTH for 8 years by a Muslim President and a Christian Vice President and vice versa which has worked consistently perfectly well even now. May God continue to help us along this direction.
The South West, on the bases that when the NORTH does the needful, and power comes to the SOUTH, then the South West and the South South geopolitical zones holds the ace in ensuring justice, equity and Fairness; reciprocating the NORTH'S great statesmanship by supporting South East geopolitical zone for the Presidential ticket of our great party APC in 2023 election.
By so doing we would have first and foremost buried forever the ghost of the civil war and finally practically actualized the no Victor and no Vanquish of General Gowns pronouncement while he is still alive.
The war generation of South East born in 1970s who are in their 50s today will then feel a sense of belonging and fraternal brotherhood as a nation knowing that they can become anything they want to become in Nigeria that does not exclude them from the scheme of things in the nation based on the fact that they are from South East or their religion, but will judge them based on their competence, capacity and content of their character as one nation indivisible under God.
This would in no doubt put President Buhari and Senator Tinubu in particular as the Father's of the new and modern Nigeria Nation in the North and the South respectively. A position that would have eclipsed the past leaders of this great nation. What a great way to be remembered.
The South East advantage to the Nigeria Nation as the President is the topic for the next discussion. But suffice to say that they are like dots in all nook and crannies in this nation, building bridges of friendship, building houses, hospitals, schools, businesses, trade, commerce, industry in communities and villages across this nation more than any other race on this nation, and at times at the cost of paying the altimate price yet they remain undeterred for the love of this nation Nigeria.
When those dots finally feel a sense of belonging with the emergence of South East extraction as the President of this country with that Spirit of though tribe and tongue may differ in brotherhood we stand, it will send a very powerful signal to the entire world that indeed the giant of Africa is ready to protect her territory and her people. The choice is entirely up to us. The time is now and yes indeed we can.
