It has been the talk in whispers within Owerri Federal Constituency since Sir Noble Abiaso Atulegwu picked the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of APC. Many other aspirants have become jittery because Noble is a man of the people. Just a few weeks ago he was still consulting until he became satisfied that the terrain was clear for penetration.
As a two time commissioner in the present administration of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Noble was completely exceptional. He was able to pilot good programs that empowered over 5000 Imo youths, women and the vulnerable. He was able to change the narrative of doing things in his ministry.
He was able to attract empowerment programs from Industrial Training Fund (ITF), National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and Nirsal Microfinance Bank that collaborated with Imo State government to give many Imo people soft loans, ranging from N1million to N10million. He was very technocratic in his administrative ideals and worked in consideration of Imo people's desires
At the Ministry of Lands, he changed the business as usual and gave the government higher income. He fought corruption to a standstill and was able to change the narrative of doing business at the ministry. He increased the monthly financial acruement to the government to over 200% of what used to come in over the years.
He headed the Land Recovery Committee and set the pace for the eventual implementation of the white paper on lands and other related matters. The committee placed the current panel headed by Prof. Anwuzie on the correct pedestal to kickstart. He was an administrator with rare gait and superlative embodiments.
In Owerri West LGA he is known as a leader who speaks the truth and fights injustice. Many times he has stood his ground to ensure that things are done normally and properly. He defends the youths and encourages them to take up political appointments so that they will contribute to good governance instead of crying wolf all the time.
He advises people in government to avoid using money and gifts as yardsticks to make the electorates overlook their shortcomings. He also encourages aspirants to stop using money to make the electorates or delegates believe they're the best. He advocates that true leaders will perform when they are trusted with the mandate to govern.
Now that the die is cast, the political milieu is already in a state of fears. The fear that the master strategist has come to change the turn of events. He has been accosted as being pushed to come in as the resolution point, while some believe that he was being sponsored to give the polity a new direction.
It has even been alleged that some Abuja gods have anointed him as the best man for the constituency. There must be have been rumours and counter rumours over his interest but it may interest many people to know that Sir Noble is a man of his own. He does what he thinks right and follows it to the letter.
With the array of aspirants across parties, it's clear that the battle will be tough but as Sir Noble Atulegwu puts it, "Politics is a matter of the people's interest. A good leader must ensure that his people benefit from his administration because he's there purposely to serve his people." Let's vote wisely for the man who will surely represent our interest in totality.
