Akarachi Amadi Inspects Erosion Sites In Mbaike

My good people of Mbaike, over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to visit several erosion gully sites within our constituency in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, and I must say that what I witnessed has deeply concerned me. It is imperative that we address this issue urgently.

Erosion is a natural process that, when left unchecked, can have devastating consequences on our communities. However, what I have witnessed goes beyond the natural course of erosion. It is a clear and present threat to our homes, livelihoods, and the environment. The erosion gullies I visited are expanding at an alarming rate, and if we do not take immediate action, the consequences will be dire.

Many homes, roads, and public infrastructure are at risk of being swallowed by these erosion gullies. Families are living in constant fear of losing their homes, and the safety of our community members is at stake.

it is destroying our agricultural land, reducing our ability to sustain our livelihoods. Our farmers are struggling to cope with the loss of fertile soil, which is essential for food production.

The erosion is causing severe damage to our natural environment. Leading to loss of vegetation, and contamination of water

sources. This not only affects our ecosystem but also poses health risks to our community.

I want to assure you that I am fully committed to addressing this pressing issue. However, I cannot do it alone. It requires a collaborative effort involving all stakeholders – government agencies, community leaders, and every concerned individual.

On Thursday, 5th October 2023, i facilitated the inspection of the following Erosion Gully Sites in our Federal Constituency:

1) Ochii Ogwa in Mbaitoli LGA Erosion Gully site.

2) Umuahii Obi-Mbieri - Ebom in Mbaitoli Erosion Gully site,

3) Umuomi-Uzoagba - Eziama in Ikeduru Erosion Gully site.

4) Amakohia Okpuala - Owu bi na Ubi in Ikeduru LGA Erosion Gully site.

The inspection team from the Ecological Fund Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation led by ESV Yusuf Sunday were received by some of the Community Leaders and Village Heads.

I urge you all to join me in this critical endeavor. Together, we can protect our homes, our environment, and the future of our beloved Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency.

Thank you.
