 Let's Have The First Female LG Chairman In Ngor Okpala

The forthcoming local government elections in Imo State, scheduled for September 21, 2024, present a significant opportunity for transformative change in Ngor Okpala. 

The directive by Governor Hope Uzodimma to conduct these long-awaited elections has sparked excitement and commendation. This decision signifies the administration's commitment to achieving what past governors could not. 

As the election date approaches, it is crucial for stakeholders, particularly political parties, to advocate for the most suitable candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions. 

For the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ngor Okpala, this election is a chance to bridge the gender disparity gap by nominating a capable woman for the chairmanship role.

This article argues that Hon. Mrs. Chike Ibekwe is the  deal candidate for this position, and voters should support her to become the first woman to be elected as the local government chairman of Ngor Okpala. 

The need for gender inclusivity in politics cannot be overemphasized.Historically, the leadership positions in Ngor Okpala have been dominated by men, with little to show for significant development. The absence of women in these roles is not for lack of capable candidates but due to entrenched gender biases. It is high time to shift this paradigm. 

As Albert Einstein famously said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” Therefore, it is imperative to embrace a new approach by electing women who have demonstrated capacity and integrity in public service. 

Hon. Mrs. Chike Ibekwe stands out as a candidate with the intellectual capacity, drive, and commitment required to transform Ngor Okpala.

She has a track record of distinguished service in various leadership roles. As the former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Community Relations, she has proven her mettle in mobilizing and coordinating support for the administration. 

Her role as the powerful mobilizer and coordinator of the Hope Uzodimma Women Support Group, and her initiatives through the Blossom Women Initiative, demonstrate her dedication to community development. 

Mrs. Ibekwe's contributions have been recognized by her community, earning her the 'Nneoma' title by the Anglican Church. Her compassion, hard work, and empathy are qualities that resonate with effective leadership. Her passion for women and youth development is evident in her initiatives to support schools, widows, and the less privileged. 

The inclusion of women in leadership and decision-making positions is crucial for national development. Women bring a different approach to governance, often emphasizing inclusivity, empathy, and community-building. This can lead to policies that reflect the diverse needs and perspectives of the entire community. Studies have shown that countries and communities that promote gender equality tend to achieve higher levels of socio-economic development. 

Women like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Prof. Dora Akunyili have demonstrated the positive impact of female leadership in Nigeria. It is time for Ngor Okpala to follow suit by electing a woman as the local government chairman.

 Mrs. Ibekwe's wealth of experience and unique skills make her well-suited for this executive role. Her prowess in community organizing, administrative competence, and deep understanding of local issues are assets that will drive the development of Ngor Okpala. 

The upcoming local government elections provide a platform for inclusive democracy. By electing Mrs. Chike Ibekwe, Ngor Okpala will not only break the gender barrier but also set a precedent for other local governments in Imo State and beyond. It is an opportunity to demonstrate that leadership is about capacity and integrity, not gender. The diverse needs of the community will be better addressed with a woman at the helm, ensuring that policies and programs are more inclusive and reflective of the entire population.

There is a prevailing belief that at the local government level, Ngor-Okpala shares power among the three zones, North, South and Central.

 Interestingly,  among all the candidates  Hon. Mrs Ibekwe stands out as the most vibrant, easy-going, goal-oriented, and outspoken. She possesses the qualities necessary to effectively deliver in this role. 

In conclusion, the time for gender-inclusive leadership is now. By electing Mrs. Chike Ibekwe, Ngor Okpala will not only make history but also take a significant step towards sustainable development and inclusive growth.
